Help us open our Microschool House.
We just signed the lease on a permanent home for Root to Rise. Your gift carries us through licensing, so children in PreK through 6th grade have room to find their roots and rise.
5700 Colfax Ave · Alexandria
Dear community partner,
My name is Taja Iglesias and I'm the founder of RootEd Foundation and Root to Rise Microschool, a community learning ecosystem in Alexandria. For more than 18 years I've cared for children as a bilingual educator and full-spectrum birth worker: first as a doula and now as a student midwife. Parents trust me to help navigate their parenting journey, from the moment they find out they are expecting to when their child reaches school age.
That trust is the foundation of RootEd Foundation and Root to Rise Microschool.
We teach the way children actually learn: through their hands, their curiosity, and their culture and community.

A shared floor on King Street
We temporarily operate from a shared office building at 4700 King Street. It's one open room where daycare, music, our library, a kitchen, and microschool learning all share the same floor. The children have made it theirs, and they've outgrown it.

Our plan
Plans are design concepts. Final furnishings will follow licensing requirements.
Licensed care means steady footing
Once we're fully licensed, qualifying families can use county child care subsidies at Root to Rise. That gives us steady revenue and far less reliance on donations. Getting there means paying up front for inspections, safety upgrades, equipment, and staff to cover 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., five days a week.
Inspections and upgrades
Safety work, equipment, and the inspections a licensed home needs before children move in.
Full-day staffing
Educators and caregivers on the floor from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Subsidy approval
Qualifying families pay with county subsidies, and the school runs on steady revenue.
Support with a gift
Would you consider a gift to help us pay our passionate staff and maintain our soon-to-be-licensed location? Every donation, grant, or contribution goes straight to one of these expenses.
Plant something with us
RootEd Foundation's 501(c)(3) status is being finalized. Until then, gifts are tax-deductible through our fiscal sponsor, CAREducation Foundation, a charitable organization.
