The Free Store is a student-created and run community pantry where we collect and share items with anyone in need. Whether you’re looking for a stroller, clothes, food, soap, or toothpaste, you are welcome to take what you need—free of judgment. We all know what it’s like to need care and connection, and that’s what this space is about. We believe in noticing a need and creating a place where people can show up for one another. Whether you’re dropping off donations or picking up something to cook, The Free Store is here to offer the love and support our community deserves.
Have some donations? Feel free to contact us at 202.630.2451 or roottorisemicroschool@gmail.com
Below are the items we currently need. To keep our space organized and fair, we only accept listed items. When we have enough of something, we’ll pause donations for that category and remove from list. We appreciate your kindness.

Donation Rules1. We Accept Only Clean, Usable Items
All clothing must be freshly washed, free from stains, pet hair, and strong odors (like smoke or mildew).
Shoes should be gently used or new, with intact soles and no holes.
Linens, towels, and blankets must be clean and dry — no rips, mold, or heavy wear.
2. No Expired or Opened Products
We cannot accept opened or expired food, formula, medications, or toiletries.
Hygiene items (like toothpaste, lotion, diapers, pads) must be new and sealed.
Check expiration dates on food, baby formula, and over-the-counter medicine before donating.
3. Only Safe & Functional Items
Household items should be in working condition — no missing parts, leaks, or frayed wires.
Toys and baby gear must be safe and clean, with no broken pieces or recalls.
Please, no car seats, cribs, or electronics unless verified safe and functioning.
4. Clothing Boundaries
We accept season-appropriate clothing in good condition — no rips, stains, or excessive fading.
Underwear, bras, socks, and swimsuits must be new with tags or packaging.
Limit donations to items someone could wear with dignity right away.
5. Food Boundaries
All food must be non-perishable and factory-sealed.
No homemade or refrigerated foods.
Please check expiration dates — we cannot distribute expired items.
6. Respecting Capacity
To keep the space organized, we may pause certain donations when storage is full.
Large drop-offs (like moving boxes or carloads) should be scheduled in advance.
7. Dignity Comes First
Please donate with the mindset:
“Would I feel comfortable giving this to a loved one in need?”
Our goal is to ensure every guest feels valued, respected, and cared for.
